Global Environment Facility

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) unites 183 countries in partnership with international institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector to address global environmental issues while supporting national sustainable development initiatives. As an independently operating financial organization, the GEF provides grants for projects related to biodiversity, climate change, chemicals, international waters, land degradation, sustainable forest management and the ozone layer depletion. Areas of cooperation between the Secretariat and GEF are, among others issues related to the financial mechanism of the Stockholm Convention , in accordance with Article 14 of the Convention, and the memorandum of understanding between the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention and the Council of the GEF.
