Stockholm Convention/WHO International Programme on Chemical Safety Middle East Workshop
The Stockholm Convention/WHO International Programme on Chemical Safety Middle East Workshop was held from 9 to 12 March 2009 in Amman, Jordan.
The objective of the workshop is to improve chemical risk assessment in the context of the POPs Review Committee and support the health sector's engagement.
The POPRC relies on information provided by Parties and observers. A national capacity for compiling relevant data and providing accurate information is critical in order to identify and nominate new POPs and to review candidate chemicals. This project aims to support and strengthen the capacity of developing countries and those with economies in transition to participate fully in the Committee's work. A key aspect includes engaging the health sector which plays a significant role regarding the human health risk assessment requirements. The joint workshop involves members of the POPRC and health sector and participants will facilitate engagement. The outcome of the workshop will be reported to the COP-4 scheduled to meet from 4 to 8 May 2009 in Geneva.
