Various guidance documents have been developed to support Parties in developing and updating the national implementation plans (NIPs). These guidance documents range from providing general guidance on how to develop, review and update NIPs to more focused guidance such as on preparing inventories for certain POPs applying best available techniques and best environmental practices (BAT/BEP).
The development of guidance documents has been supported by generous financial contributions by the European Union, the Governments of the Germany, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.
Parties are encouraged to use the available guidance and invited to provide comments based on their experience in using them. The Secretariat will update the guidance, subject to the availability of resources.
Guidance documents on BAT/BEP are available here.
An online course “National Implementation Plans and the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants” was developed, thanks to generous financial support provided by the European Union and in cooperation with UNITAR. The online course provides an introduction to the process of preparing, reviewing and updating NIPs.
The Secretariat is preparing draft guidance on developing inventories and on alternatives to newly listed POPs. The draft guidance will be presented at the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention:
- Draft guidance on preparing inventories for methoxychlor (Word / PDF)
- Draft guidance on alternatives to methoxychlor (Word / PDF)
